Porting a business phone number: what to expect

The documents you need, the usual timeline, and how to avoid a missed call during the switch.

Short answer

To port a number you need a signed letter of authorization, your current account number and PIN, and a recent bill. Ports usually complete in one to three weeks, depending on the carrier you are leaving.

Before you start

  • Don't cancel your current service. Cancelling can release the number.
  • Get your account number and port-out PIN from your current carrier.
  • Match the name and address on the request exactly to your bill.

During the port

Mittis shows live status and a target date in the console. Your old service keeps working until the moment the number moves.

Questions

Can I text from the number while it ports?

Not through Mittis until the port completes. Register your campaign in parallel so texting works on day one.
