Transactional vs marketing email from your own domain
Why they should be sent differently, and the DNS records that keep both out of spam.
Short answer
Send transactional email, like receipts and reminders, separately from marketing email, ideally from different subdomains. Both need SPF, DKIM and DMARC records on your domain to reach the inbox.
Why separate them
Marketing mail gets more complaints and unsubscribes. Keeping it on its own subdomain protects the reputation of the receipts and password resets people actually need.
The three DNS records
- SPF lists who may send for your domain.
- DKIM signs each message.
- DMARC tells inboxes what to do when checks fail.
